TELME Master’s Degree presentation

Teaching, Designing, Managing Foreign Language Learning for a Multicultural and Inclusive Environment (TELME)

TELME Erasmus Mundus Master’s Degree

JMD stands for “Joint Master’s Degree” in the context of the Erasmus Mundus programme. The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) is a prestigious international study programme, funded by the European Commission, that offers full scholarships to outstanding students from around the world.

The JMD is a high-quality integrated international study programme, which is jointly delivered by a consortium of universities from five different European countries in the context of the TELME project. The programme is designed to promote excellence in education and research through international cooperation, intercultural understanding, and the development of global skills.

The JMD programmes typically last between one and two years, and include a mandatory study period in at least two different countries. The curriculum is designed to provide students with a broad and interdisciplinary understanding of their chosen field of study. Upon successful completion of the programme, students are awarded a joint degree from the consortium of universities.

TELME

Partners: Coordinator: Université Rennes 2 (France); Åbo Akademi (Finland); Adam Mickiewicz University (Poland); Universidad de Burgos (Spain); The University of Limerick (Ireland).

Aims: The Joint Master’s programme in the TELME project aims to recruit high-quality students in teaching foreign languages in a multicultural environment, organised over two academic years between five universities (see mobility track below). The programme will teach future language teachers and professionals how to create and maintain an environment that encourages good interpersonal relations within a multicultural group. It aims to teach students to:

  • understand diversity in the various cultural and ethnic groups and work within multicultural and multilingual contexts;
  • understand the influence of native languages (and other second languages) on, or when learning a foreign language (interlanguage, interlingual and plurilingual strategies);
  • create a discrimination-free educational environment, opening up to different cultural backgrounds, languages, and ethnicities;
  • foster tolerance and mutual respect within educational contexts;
  • enhance awareness, skills, and competencies in languages and applied linguistics;
  • use ICT and blended educational approaches.
